New from Knit Now! Samol January 5, 2021 05:46

Hello again! It's nice to be writing to you again after the 2020 holiday season. I hope 2021 has been kind to you so far! I took a bit of a break because… well... 2020. And the holidays. I needed a little mental/spiritual reset away from social media, etc… You may notice that I do this every once in awhile without notice. ::shrug::

But I'm back to writing up some weekly blog posts, and am excited to introduce you to the Samol Pullover! It was published in December 2020, in issue 123 of Knit Now Magazine.

I'm psyched to see that my sweater was selected for the cover! That's always such an exciting thing! And Samol really deserves it.

Samol is knit using the chunky-weight Re:Treat yarn from West Yorkshire Spinners. It knits up SUPER fast on a 10 1/2 (6.5mm) needle at a gauge of 15 sts over 4" / 10 cm.

It's worked seamlessly from the top down, with raglan shaping. Top-down sweaters are great for so many reasons! And I really love the garter stitch shoulders on this sweater!

And the cable panels on the front and back, bordered with garter stitch, tie together nicely with the shoulders, neckband, cuffs and hem.

Speaking of the hem, there are some optional short-row instructions included to create a scooped edge on the front and back of the body.

Overall this sweater is pretty simple and straight-forward—a great sweater pattern for someone beginning to learn cables, and the ease of the top-down raglan and seamless construction mean it's perfect for anyone new to sweater knitting.
