New Pattern - Sati Cardigan March 8, 2020 09:17
Knitting is as much about the experience of making something as it is about having a finished product. In the Sati Cardigan pattern, there are lots of interesting things going on, though the finished sweater appears pretty basic and simple. You can read all about the construction of this sweater in the Sati Cardigan Construction Class post.
The abundant stockinette stitch makes it easier to focus on the techniques, without the added complication of stitch patterns. This is a great pattern to use with a beautiful worsted-weight variegated, self-striping or hand-dyed yarn. The yarn will stand out, without getting muddled up with texture.
The pattern includes 12 pages of detailed, tech edited, tested instructions, with beautiful color photography by Carrie Bostick Hoge. There are diagrams to help clarify the pocket construction, and a schematic with imperial and metric measurements. There are clickable links to photo tutorials of the provisional cast-on and the three-needle bind-off.
While the sample I made for photography has long sleeves, there are instructions included in the pattern for making a short-sleeve version. You can see some examples on Ravelry, knitted by some of the pattern testers.
At a gauge of 17 sts to 4" / 10 cm and using worsted-weight yarn, this sweater knits up surprisingly fast. It's sized to fit between 28-59" bust circumferences. (That's the body measurement, not the sweater measurement).
