The New Cabled Gannet Hoodie March 2, 2021 10:34

Knit Picks recently published their Chalet, Cabled Sweaters collection. Among the many beautiful cabled sweaters is my Gannet Hoodie.

I'm so in love with this sweater, and its top-down seamless construction. The cozy comfort of a hooded pullover, plus a kangaroo pocket turn this sweater into something I'd never want to take off.

The sweater begins by working the top of the hood. It's shaped using short-rows and some increases.

Then the hood is decreased from the top down to the neck, where shoulder stitches are cast on and the back pattern is established.

Front shoulder stitches are picked up, then sleeve stitches are picked up from the back and front. The yoke is worked with contiguous sleeve shaping to the underarms. That just means that the fronts, sleeves and back are all on the needle together, with markers between them where increases occur for the sleeve caps and "armholes".

Body and sleeves are divided and worked separately. A seamless pocket is worked on the front during the waist shaping.

The pattern includes both written and charted instructions for the cable panel. And the pattern is generously sized to fit between 30 to 64" bust body measurements.

It's knitted using their super-soft Twill yarn, which is 100% superwash merino.
